About Threadneedle’s Investment Approach

Threadneedle is an active fund manager who primarily uses fundamental analysis. It believes in bottom-up stock selection as the most effective way to add value to its global equity portfolios. It is important that a stock’s attractiveness is assessed with regard to the prevailing market environment.

Its approach is based on the belief that not all companies are priced correctly by the market in the short-term and this presents an investment opportunity. It believes that market participants with a short time horizon leave longer-term potential outcomes undiscounted. A longer time horizon gives greater scope to identify potentially undiscounted change, and as such, it considers explicitly what a company’s outlook and valuation might be at a chosen time horizon (typically in two years’ time).

This lifts its perspective beyond the factors that may currently be dominating market thinking about the stock and provides a realistic horizon for the assessment of the future of a company. Threadneedle also believes that the local influences and constraints on regional investors can lead to stocks becoming mispriced on a global basis and, therefore, seeks to place each stock in a global context. Threadneedle believes it can deploy capital globally more efficiently than regional managers that are constrained to manage risk in relation to a local benchmark. The end result is an integrated global portfolio of best ideas from around the world.
