Investment Objective
The Certitude Asian Opportunities Fund aims to access a long-only investment strategy designed to capture the long-term returns of the Asia-Pacific equity markets whilst constraining volatility through tactical exposure to bonds and cash.
Investment Strategy
The Certitude Asian Opportunities Fund strategy is to access, through the Fund’s investment in the MWG Fund, a diversified portfolio of equities, government bonds, corporate bonds and convertible bonds of the Asia-Pacific region and currencies, particularly Asia-Pacific currencies.
The Fund aims to provide
- Exposure to Asia-Pacific equity and bond markets with the potential to achieve returns with a lower volatility profile than traditional equity.
- Diversification in investor’s investment portfolio by adding an investment with exposure to the potential benefits associated with economic and corporate expansion in the Asia-Pacific region.
About the MWG Fund
The MWG Fund is an alternate investment fund with a ‘long-only’ strategy. The MWG Fund invests in the equities, bonds and other fixed income instruments issued by companies based in, and the governments of, the Asia-Pacific region including, but not limited to, Japan, China, Hong Kong, Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, India, New Zealand, Australia, Indonesia, Philippines, Taiwan and South Korea as well as global currencies.
The MWG Fund primarily invests in stocks of companies with a high market capitalisation. As such, the liquidity of the underlying positions is generally high. Marshall Wace GaveKal’s strategy aims to produce consistent returns through a top-down, tactical asset allocation investment process as well as a bottom-up, individual company analysis. The MWG Fund may use stock exchange tradable equity futures contracts. Futures contracts will generally be used for hedging or as an alternative to buying or selling the equivalent securities, for example:
- as a way of rapidly increasing or decreasing net exposure to a given market or security; or
- more generally, to reflect asset allocation decisions and where for reasons relating to timing or costs, Marshall Wace GaveKal decides that investment by means of the futures market is more appropriate for the MWG Fund than direct equity investments.
Term of the Investment
The term of the Certitude Asian Opportunities Fund is open ended.
